Dispersal order reduces anti-social behaviour

gen_police-jacketA six-month dispersal order aimed at tackling anti-social behaviour in Chalvey has been judged a success by police.

The order, which gave officers additional powers to disperse offenders in the Burlington Avenue area of Chalvey, terminated at midnight on December 21.

It was deisgned to tackle noise nuisance and street drinking.

During the six months a total of 16 people were officially dispersed, with two people being arrested for failing to leave the designated area when requested.

Calls to police about anti-social behaviour in the area fell from 106 in July to December 2010 to 63 in the same period last year.

Crime within the area including robbery, assaults, criminal damage and drug offences also fell from 54 to 44 incidents.

Inspector Andy Young, of the Slough south neighbourhood team, said; "Although the dispersal order has ended, this area will be closely monitored and consultation with local businesses and residents will continue.

"In the meantime consideration will be given to other measures, which might include a further order to provide a long-term solution to this problem."

Report anti-social behaviour to police on 101 or the council's hotline on 01753 875298.
