Barry McGuigan meets young boxers

Boxing legend Barry McGuigan met budding young pugilists last week.

The former world featherweight champion met youngsters who pack a punch at an open evening at East Berkshire College's Langley Campus.

The 50-year-old, known as The Clones Cyclone in his fighting days, welcomed prospective students to the Barry McGuigan Boxing Academy, where he delivered a special workshop on the art of sport as a route to learning.

He said: "In these challenging times there is an even greater need to give young people the belief and vision to succeed.

"I was given a chance through sport to fulfill my potential, and I want this programme to give others that chance."

He signed autographs, answered questions, and introduced visitors to boxing coach Ian Bailey.
