Withdrawn: Langley mosque plans
Proposals to change Langley Village Club into a mosque have been withdrawn.
Dawat-e-Islami's plans to change the venue in Cheviot Road, from a licensed members social club into an Islamic community and teaching centre and place of worship, were due to be discussed by Slough Borough councillors at a planning meeting at The Centre in Farnham Road today.
Campaigners, who had organised a petition, fear the proposed centre would make a parking nightmare in the area even worse.
Glynys Higgins, chairman of Foxborough Tenants and Residents Association, said: "Generally the whole area is completely full of cars, lorries, buses and emergency traffic. We are at capacity, it is a nightmare already."
Plans for the centre included children's education classes, adult study classes, language courses, counselling and advice as well as a prayer hall.
Applicants said they expected 90 per cent of people to walk to the centre.
