PHOTOS: Maha Shivratri celebrations in Slough
A day of worship and celebration brought Hindus all over the world together this week.
Maha Shivratri is the moonless night when special prayers are said to Lord Shiva, on the night he is said to have performed the Tandava Nritya or dance of primordial creation, preservation and destruction.
The Hindu temple in Keel Drive was the setting for Slough's celebration of the day long festival. The temple stayed open till midnight.
The evening began with Preeti Bhojan - which translates literally into 'eating with family and friends with love'.
Devotional Hindi Shiv Poojan songs were sung before the Mandir Aarti - waving of lighted wicks - and finally Pravachan, a discourse on the scriptures delivered by priests Naresh Saraswat and Arun Shastri.
Then it was time for songs performed on keyboard, harmonium and drums by Naresh Sharma and his musicians.
