Row over use of ariel platforms for firefighters
The APL in use at a fire in Slough High Street
A row is looming over management plans to dump the aerial ladder platform (ALP) used by firefighters.
The opposition to its demise will be led by Langley councillor Diana Coad, a member of the country’s fire authority.
Cllr Coad said: “Windsor has already been downgraded, which means this end of Berkshire is being left out in the cold.
“I will fight this because the aerial ladder platform is a critical tool used in rescues.
“There was a fire at a three-storey block in Slough High Street three weeks ago when two people were overcome by smoke.”
A spokeswoman for the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) said use of specialist appliances was under review.
Cllr Coad will visit fire stations to ascertain the views of firefighters.
