Olympic parking at Great Park

More than 2,000 cars carrying Olympic spectators are set to descend on Windsor Great Park every day when the Games comes to town next year.

Plans for a park and ride scheme have been submitted by the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) for a 24.5 hectare area for 2,337 vehicles at a time in Sheet Street Road, between the existing car park and Long Walk.

Buses will shuttle spectators from the Review Ground to Windsor Racecourse where a temporary bridge over the River Thames will give access to Dorney Lake.

Cllr Phill Bicknell (Con, Park), Royal Borough cabinet member for highways, said there was going to be some disruption.

"But we are trying to keep this to a minimum and the grass will recover very quickly on the park," he said.

Events will take place at Dorney Lake during the Olympic Games from July 27 to August 12 and the Paralympic Games from August 29 to September 3.

The proposal is among four planned car parks close to the Olympic site in Dorney, along with Braywick Park and Stafferton Way, in Maidenhead, and Upton Court Park in Slough.

The proposal for Upton Park Court  is for 2,150 spaces covering a parking area of 64,690m².

A decision will be made by planners for the Royal Borough sites by December 14.
