Father hits marathon trail in memory of late wife

A fitness fanatic is hitting the marathon trail to keep the memory of his late wife alive.

Amrik Bajwa, from Bowyer Drive in Cippenham, lost his wife, Simarjit, 57, in August.

The 57-year-old said: "Simarjit died from a massive brain haemorrhage. I have decided I have got to do something for her. I want to keep her name alive and want to set up a charity in her name."

The father-of-three is hoping to run the London Marathon in three years raising funds for charity but in the meantime has joined Sikhs in the City, a group which runs marathons across the world.

He is running his first international half marathon in Hong Kong on February 5.

Also taking part in the Sikhs in the City team is 100-year-old Fauja Singh from East London, who has inspired Amrik.

Amrik, an Avis Rent a Car employee, said: "His wife died aged 80 and he took up international marathons and has been running for 20 years now. I thought I am only 57, I want to keep my wife's name going and this is one way I can do it."

Amrik came to the UK from India aged 10 and lived in Baylis before spending the last 40 years in Cippenham.
