Man jailed for pint glass assault
A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to five years in jail after assaulting a man with a pint glass in a Cippenham pub.
Matthew Higgins, of Priory Road, Haymill, Slough was sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Friday, January 27, after previously pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm.
His victim, a 24-year-old man, suffered a fractured left eye socket and cuts to his cheek and ear in the assault at the Kings Head Pub in Lower Cippenham Road, on November 18 last year.
The pair had argued after the victim's girlfriend complained Higgins had inappropriately touched her bottom.
Detective Constable Emma Mullenger, investigating officer, said: “This was a nasty attack on a victim who describes going across to speak to Higgins in a non-aggressive manner. It is simply unacceptable for violence such as this to be used.”
An 18-year-old man has also been charged in connection with the incident and was due to appear before Slough Magistrates court today for a plea and case management hearing.
