Robber jailed for stealing cash from elderly women
A 'sickening' robber who stole nearly £2,000 from two elderly women has been jailed.
Peter Singh Panesar, of Boulters Close in Cippenham, was sentenced to seven years in prison after being found guilty of robbery and common assault at Reading Crown Court yesterday.
The 44-year-old called at the home of a 79-year-old in Concorde Way, Slough, at 12.30pm on July 4 last year claiming to be from the council.
He pushed the woman and barged in, and when she refused his demands to hand over money he searched the living room for cash and stole £1,800.
On August 4 last year Panesar entered the home of a 76-year-old in Kenilworth Close, Slough, at 4.30pm. When the wheelchair-bound woman tried to stand up and stop him he pushed her back into her seat.
He again demanded money before finding the victim's handbag and stealing £80. As Panesar left the house a member of the public tried to stop him but he pushed them and ran away.
Panesar was handed seven year sentences for each of the two robberies and two months for common assault to be served concurrently.
Investigating officer PC Ramya Soliman said: "Panesar committed robberies on elderly people who were not in a position to defend themselves. His actions were sickening and motivated purely by money.
"I welcome the sentence given by the court and would like to praise the two victims for their bravery and support throughout the investigation."
