Maidenhead United’s failure to pick up at least a point in last night’s 3-2 defeat to Sandhurst Town means their rivals will win the Allied Counties Premier Division title if they can beat North Greenford United in their final game.
The Magpies needed just a draw from last night’s match at Bracknell’s Larges Lane ground to seal the title for a sixth consecutive time.
But, on a miserably wet night in Bracknell, they were beaten for the fourth time this season handing the title initiative to Sandhurst who have moved to within two points of the leaders with a game still to play.
If Town beat already relegated North Greenford United in their final match (date to be confirmed) they will lift the trophy by a point.
Sandhurst led the table in the early weeks of the season before seemingly bowing to the Magpies’ superiority.
However, a late season slip up from the Magpies saw them fail to win any of their last three league games, drawing and losing to Oxford City ahead of last night’s defeat.
United led 2-1 before Town mounted a fightback in the second half to keep their title hopes firmly alive.
The Magpies are looking to add the league title to the league cup they won two weeks ago against Beaconsfield SYCOB u18s
