READING have all but cemented their play-off place - and given themselves an outside chance of automatic promotion - after two wins in the space of 48 hours over Easter.
The Royals, who saw off Aston Villa 3-1 on Saturday and recovered from going a goal down to beat relegated Rotherham on Monday, are now just six points adrift of second placed Newcastle with three matches to play.
Lewis Grabban’s volley got them back on terms against Rotherham before John Swift finished off a fine team move to complete the second half comeback.
Swift praised the team’s fitness to come from behind against Rotherham having only played 48 hours earlier at Villa Park.
“The fitness is good,” Swift told the club's website. “To come away with six points from these two games is massive.
"We’ve only got three more games, so one last push and hopefully we can stay in the play-offs.
“We went into the last couple of games under a bit of pressure because of the result against Norwich.
“I would say this one was an even bigger win than the one against Villa because we could’ve easily taken our foot off the gas, which we did for a short spell in the first half, but came out on top in the second.”
The Royals, third in the table on 79 points, still need one more win to make absolutely sure of their top six spot. However, on current form they look a good bet to join Brighton in the Premier League next season, whether through the play-offs or through a late surge into the one remaining automatic spot.
They visit to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
