The Princess of Wales is set to host a reception for the England Women’s Rugby team at Windsor Castle.

The Red Roses reigned victorious in September last year when they beat Canada 33-13 at home in Twickenham during the Women’s Rugby World Cup.

England’s women have won the World Cup three times, having lifted the trophy in 1994 against the USA and beat Canada 21-9 in 2014.

Last year’s winning team featured Abby Dow, who grew up in Maidenhead and was previously a junior at Maidenhead Rugby and Football Club (RFC).

She announced her retirement from professional rugby in November last year.

Another player featured in the team was Maud Muir, who is a former women’s and girls’ coach at Maidenhead RFC.

The team will join The Princess, who is patron of the Rugby Football Union, for the reception, which will celebrate their win.

The players and team staff will be given a tour of Windsor Castle, before joining The Princess to celebrate their achievement and show her the World Cup.

The team will be invited to take a formal group photo with The Princess.
