Cookham RC juniors set 11 new club records this week, with Sammy March’s sub two minute performance in the Watford Open Meeting 800m on Wednesday setting the standard. March ran 1.59.01 to dip under the two-minute barrier for the first time – and in doing so re-wrote the club’s u20s men’s record books.
A large Cookham contingent also competed at the Wycombe Invitational Track meeting in Little Marlow on Sunday. Despite the blustery conditions Brogan McCafferty ran a lifetime best of 26.62 to win the u15s girls 200m and produced a season’s best of 12.88 to win the 100m. Jamie Smith was also in fine form, winning the u13s boys 200m event in 27.87 and setting a new club record in the process. He was closely followed by William Dart in second (28.11). Fabien Mormech also set a new record of 12.22 in the u11s boys 75m sprint. Edwin Isted took two silver medals, placing second in the u15s boys 800m in 2.13.82 and later setting a new club record for the 300m in 40.05. Dart narrowly missed out on a personal best in the u13s boys 800m in 2.26.67, with Harry Charles better his previous best with 2.27.61.
Cara Terry continued her record breaking form for the club with 2.18.16 in the 800m and Frank McGrath ran a tactically perfect race to steal the u15s boys 1,500m in 4.31.97 – three seconds outside his personal best. Asmi Saha broke a club record set four years ago in the u13s girls 1,200m, finishing in 4.05.39, with Annabel Insley close behind in 4.12.28. More records were broken in the field events where Ollie Drever leapt 3.57m in the u12s boys long jump while Isted added a few centimetres to his own record with a leap of 5.05m in the u15s boys event. There were also club records from Sadie Huddleston and Charlotte Wilkinson in the javelin.
