Maidenhead Athletic Club’s Anthony Hornby (above) and Dave Fitzgerald completed the St Albans half-marathon on Sunday on the hottest day of the year so far.
On a tough course, and given the sweltering conditions, Anthony did well to finish in under two hours, crossing the line in 1.56.24, while Dave was also ‘pleased enough to get round in 2.03.
He said: “Lots of water was drunk, but also poured over the head to try and keep cool.
“It was good to be in an actual race, with near 2,000 entrants, even if it was too hot to do any actual racing.”
Colin Symons and Lara Edmundstone-West ran the Barnes fitness 5k at Dinton Pastures on Thursday, the second race in a series of four. Colin’s time of 20.16 put him first in his age category, and 11th overall, while Lara’s time of 25.13 saw her finish seventh in her age category and 52nd overall.
This weekend’s smart motorway closures on the M4 will be shorter than usual due to separate bridge works taking place in West Berkshire (Junctions 13-14)
