A charity providing practical support to children and families in need across Berkshire and Buckinghamshire has been awarded £600 by the Millennium Trust of the Rotary Club of Maidenhead Thames.

Rotarian Barry Hatch presented the cheque to The Link Foundation’s chair Una Loughrey and administrator Chanell Cross.

This festive season, the charity helped provide more than 500 families with a Christmas dinner.

The money given by the Millennium Trust went towards this Christmas appeal.

The charity’s Christmas appeal has been running for the last 13 years, providing Christmas dinner and presents for youngsters.

Toy donations were received from Stoke Park, Lapland UK, Mattel, and St Piran’s School.

The charity also received a donation of £1,000 from the Temple Manor Lodge Masons.

Since The Link Foundation was established in 2006, it has supported local people in need with basic items such as cots, beds, prams, cookers, washing machines, fridges, clothes and food.

Both 2024 and 2025 have ‘remained incredibly challenging for countless families’ in the community, the charity said.

Ms Loughrey explained: “The lingering effects of the Covid-19 pandemic continued to take a toll.

“Combined with the ongoing cost of living crisis, this has pushed more families than ever into hardship.

“Many who had never needed help before found themselves turning to The Link Foundation, applying for vouchers for essentials like food, clothing, and hygiene products alongside basic family essentials to ensure their children are fed, clothed and have a safe night's sleep.”

The charity’s mission is to step in during times of crisis to provide grants and meet specific needs of local children.

The Link Foundation supports children in a range of circumstances, including children affected by parental abandonment or illness, children living with a disability, children in refuges and children and families who cannot afford basic items or small everyday comforts.
