Thompson helps Twyford & Ruscombe CC to five-wicket win Berkshire League Division 1 opener

An impressive opening knock from Robin Thompson (65) helped Twyford & Ruscombe to an opening day five wicket win over Farley Hill in Berkshire League Division 1.

Having elected to field, Twyford restricted their visitors to 156-8 from their 40 overs, before reeling them in for the loss of five wickets in 35.1 overs. Ashish Darekar finished with the side's best bowling figures (2-8), while Mark Higgins (30) helped Thompson drive the hosts toward their total following the loss of early wickets. Twyford host Warfield on Saturday.

In the same division Waltham St Lawrence were tripped up in their first match by West Reading CC, losing by eight wickets.

Having been put into bat Waltham were bowled out for 165 in 37.5 overs, with Sree Venkata (42) top scoring. But the lower order languished at the crease with Muhammad Asif taking 3-27. West Reading lost only two wickets en route to their total, with Usman Ali (64no) and Wasim Amin (59no) both smashing half centuries. Waltham go to Woodley 2nds this weekend.

In Division 2 Knowl Hill were indebted to James Stoker's 136 as they beat Peppard Stoke Row by 43 runs. Having been inserted the visitors smashed 258-3 from their 40 overs before bowling Peppard out for 215 in the 38th over.

Stoker was again instrumental, taking 3-26. In-form Knowl Hill are at Wokingham 6ths on Saturday.
