Little Marlow CC's second stringers take centre stage

Anwar Mahmood.

A fine collective bowling display helped Little Marlow 2nds to an emphatic home win over Amersham’s Phoenix Old Boys on Saturday.

Most of the visitors’ top order made a start but they were unable to

progress against a disciplined, medium-paced

attack, and from 76-4 they were bowled out for 136. Woodland dominated a stand of 56 with David Ive, but the last six wickets fell for just four runs. Tom Lathey, Matt Wilson, Tahir Rashid and Ged Holmes all took two wickets apiece.

After tea Muhammed Yaqoob virtually won the game on his own for Little Marlow, smashing a boundary-rich century. Opening partner Richard Tinsley (4) sensibly adopted a support role. Rob Mason (4) departed 12 runs later but Neil Lancum (8no) ensured there were no further losses with Yaqoob hitting the winning runs in the 27th over.

He closed on 107 having blasted 15 fours and four sixes.

Having played their way into a winning position Little Marlow’s Sunday team collapsed in careless fashion to lose their 40/40 match against Britwell Salome.

Chasing 214, Anwar Mahmood and Danny Ishaq (45) provided the perfect platform by posting 75 for the first wicket. Tahir Rashid (49) gamely kept the side on course but hopes were lost when he edged a high full toss to the wicket keeper.

They were bowled out for 203.
