Datchet extended their winning run as old faces came back to haunt Slough on a scorching Saturday at Upton Court.

Bobby Sher took three wickets against his former club, while David Brent also impressed with  the ball in hand as Datchet came away with a four-wicket victory to keep the momentum going ahead of their top-of-the-table clash against Henley this weekend.

After winning the toss, Slough started steadily as Ali Ahmed (22) and Rahim Akhtar (6) put together an opening stand of 26 before the latter was called lbw off a Tom Lambert delivery.

That was built slowly but surely by Saif Zaib (37) but after Datchet took his wicket; Slough struggled to put runs on the board as they fell to 132 all out.

“It was a good game on a pretty warm day,” said Datchet batsman Jonty Jenner.

“David Brent was the pick of the bowlers, he bowled 15 overs and took three wickets for not many runs and Bobby Sher took three wickets against his old club Slough.

“The Prize wicket was Saif Zaib and he was caught and bowled by our captain Steven Naylor and they limped to a 132 from 42 overs.”

The Datchet response started strongly as Joe Barrett got back to his early season form with a steady 48, while Jenner added 32 of his own runs before being caught by Akhtar at 110-5. Sher (9no) and Vishal Aeri (14no) made sure Datchet got over the line to maintain their unbeaten run this season and keep them in fine form against a clash against title rivals Henley.

“The crunch match against Henley this weekend - there’s been a bit of chat but we have a young team so we jus have to treat it as another game,” added Jenner.

“We are quite confident and we will have a few of the Berkshire boys back too in (Chris) Peploe and (James) Morris.

“I think that’s one thing we have discussed this season – winning becomes a habit. We haven’t fully clicked this season yet, our first game we won by ten wickets and that was probably the best win we’ve had.

“In matches – when you’ve got teams on the ropes we need to be finishing them off quickly and professionally.”

Saturday’s match against Henley- the only other side who are also unbeaten this season- gets underway at 11am at the Wally Gage Memorial Ground.
