Ashera Mahavidanalage struck 88 not out as Wargrave chased down Cove for a five-wicket win on Saturday, a result which lifts them above North Maidenhead into second place.
Having won the toss Cove started well at the crease, with Shanley Marisa making 64 and Najeeb Bashir Malik 36.
Shiryar Ahmed kept the visitors in check with 4-44, with Mark Firth chipping in with 3-72, restricting them to 197-9 off 52 overs.
The form they’ve been in, Neal Robinson’s men would have been confident of making the chase, but their reply was rocked by the early dismissal of Mandip Sohi for two and Michael Holder for nought. Imran Malik’s 35 from 83 balls held the innings together for a time before Mahavidanalage motored the hosts toward their total, firing off 88 runs from 75 balls. Toby Greatwood played the support role, making 31 as Wargrave reached 199-5 in the 45th over.
Wargave face a trip to Hayes this Saturday.
