A junior school in Maidenhead has been awarded the prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag award with distinction by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.
The internationally recognised Green Flag, given to All Saints CE Junior School, represents ‘excellence in the field of environmental activity’.
The Eco-Schools Programme looks to make environmental action and awareness a key part of life and ethos of a school.
The programme has a seven-step process, resulting in the programme becoming central to a school’s ethos.
Schools can choose from ten eco-topics including litter and waste, biodiversity, energy and transport.
The school in Westborough Road carried out a range of activities including recycling food waste, conducting regular little picks in the local area, planting a wildflower garden in the school grounds and growing vegetables.
A ‘very active’ Gardening Club also operates at the school.
Other activities have included creating hedgehog houses, putting in wildlife cameras and having an eco-garden and a ‘few rewilded patches of grass’.
During Parliament Week 2025 last month, the school welcomed Maidenhead MP Josh Reynolds.
He met with eco leaders, answered questions about environmental policy and youth engagement and celebrated All Saints’ eco-school achievements.
Together with the pupils, Mr Reynolds unveiled a cedar tree sapling, which was a gift from The Odney Club to highlight the school’s eco work.
