After more than 550 days without a game, Great Britain have named their men’s and women’s squads to take on Germany in their first international matches since November 2019, and players with Maidenhead links have made both squads.
Maidenhead Hockey Club coaches David Ames and Shona McCallin are both in their respective squads for this week’s matches against Germany today (Wednesday) and tomorrow (Thursday) with Ames able to win his 50th cap if he plays in both fixtures.
Fellow Maidenhead resident Henry Weir could also play his first matches after recovering from an ankle injury that sidelined him throughout 2020.
Former Claires Court School pupil Ellie Rayer and Maddie Hinch are also included in the women’s squad, with Rayer in line to make her 50th appearance for England and Great Britain combined and Hinch set for her 150th international match.
Both of the teams will play on both days, with the men due to play at 5.30pm before the women take on ‘Die Danas’ at 8pm.
The games are both behind closed doors but will be shown live on BT Sport.
