Maidenhead United miss chances as Halifax Town seal all three points at The Shay

FC Halifax Town 3, Maidenhead United 2

Maidenhead United failed to get the rub of the green, despite netting twice in the final 20 minutes, as they went down to defeat at Halifax Town.

Alan Devonshire’s men saw plenty of the ball and created their own share of chances but the game was taken away from them by two goals in 10 minutes after the interval.

Halifax already led at the break when Morgan bundled the ball home from close range in the 29th minute.

But the Magpies responded well with Sam Barratt and Remy Clerima both denied by fine saves from Town keeper Johnson.

Town had the ball in the net from a corner kick just before the break but the effort was ruled out for a push, while Kosylo was prevented from scoring by Jake Goodman’s brave block.

The scoreline slightly flattered the home side at the break but Maidenhead switched off twice in the second half to hand Halifax the points. First Kosylo evaded Clerima’s challenge before sending a looping shot over the head of Carl Pentney, via the aid of a deflection in the 55th minute.

The game was then all but up for the Magpies in the 67th minute when Kosylo slotted home at the far post.

However, Maidenhead have shown their character countless times already this season and did so again when Goodman slotted home after Harry Pritchard’s shot was blocked out by Johnson. The visitors continued to throw caution to the wind and go for it, and Barratt, Adrian Clifton and James Mulley all forced presentable openings that weren’t taken before Sean Marks headed home his first of the season from a corner in the 95th minute. It proved the last action of a pulsating match and, defensive errors aside, Maidenhead will feel somewhat aggrieved to be travelling back to Berkshire without anything to show for their efforts.

Maidenhead United: Pentney, Clerima, Odametey, Massey, Comley (Mulley), Marks, Barratt, Pritchard, Kilman (Clifton), Goodman, Smith. Subs: Steer, Inman, Peters.
