Barratt says call up to England C training camp was a real honour

MAGPIES’ winger Sam Barratt said it was an honour and an amazing experience to be called up for training with England’s C team.

Barratt was initially in the standby squad for the Three Lions, but got the call-up for the camp at Lilleshall, which started on Monday.

Manager Paul Fairclough ran the rule over the players ahead of the country’s International Challenge Trophy final against Slovakia next month.

“It was a great honour to make the 22-man squad,” said Barratt. “It was a great experience meeting the lads and playing against them. The first day was tough and it shows how much talent there is in non-league football. But I found my feet on the second day and feel I did myself justice in a friendly match we played.

“The squad will be picked on current form so I’ve just got to try and play well for Maidenhead week in week out and hopefully I’ll be selected again. I think the boys at the training camp are all in the picture for the game against Slovakia. It would be an amazing experience and another step forward for me if I were to play in that.”

Jim Kellermann, who netted twice against the Magpies for Aldershot on Saturday, was also picked for the camp.

The team represents England at non-league level.
