Maidenhead United will take on Halifax Town in the second round of the FA Trophy on Saturday, after the Shaymen overcame Macclesfield Town in their first round clash on Tuesday.
A solitary Matty Kosylo strike was enough for the hosts to set up another home clash against the Magpies this weekend, just seven days after the sides played out a goalless draw in the league at York Road.
Maidenhead booked their place in this round of the competition with a thoroughly deserved 2-0 win at Woking before Christmas.
The competition is not one of Alan Devonshire’s priorities this season, but the £7,000 on offer to the winning club should be motivation enough for the Magpies. On Saturday he conceded the draw had been rough on the Magpies, but promised his side would ‘give it a real go’.
The Magpies were surprise 2-0 winners when the teams met in the same competition 14 years ago. Steve Hale, one of the Magpies’ conquering heroes that afternoon, gave his account of that afternoon to the club last week.
You can read Steve’s account of that day on the Maidenhead Advertiser website.
