Maidenhead United have managed to extend central defender Alfie Kilgour’s loan deal until the end of the season.
The Bristol Rovers loanee has been in imperious form for the Magpies, helping them shut out Aldershot Town and Gateshead last week to pick up four points from a possible six.
The first of Kilgour’s 10 appearances for the Magpies was a baptism of fire – a 4-0 defeat to League 1 leaders Portsmouth in the FA Cup – but he’s since established himself as a key figure in the Magpies central defence and retaining his services until the end of the season will be seen as crucial to the side's hopes of avoiding the drop.
The 20-year-old also scored his first senior goal in United’s 4-3 Boxing Day victory over Aldershot.
“He’s been brilliant for us and for the boy to be getting National League experience week in and week out at his age, that’s a brilliant education,” said assistant boss Sam Lock.
After the congested Christmas period, January’s fixtures look equally manic for the Magpies, with Lock admitting they’ll have to use their full squad.
“It’s mayhem this month,” he said. “We’ll have to use the squad where we can.
“But we’re looking forward to it and these games will provide an opportunity for one or two.”
