Josh Smile shone brightly for the Magpies in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against Chesterfield, and he’s hopeful they can carry their form into Saturday’s clash with Hartlepool United.

The midfielder was a constant menace, buzzing between the lines and whipping in dangerous crosses. He and his teammates were disappointed not to see out the game after taking the lead through Remy Clerima’s fine finish, but afterwards he accepted the point was a good one.

“Yeah, we’re disappointed not to get the win,” Smile said after the final whistle. “But it’s a good point I guess.

“We scored a really good goal. Great play from Danny (Whitehall) and a great finish from Remy. It’s disappointing we couldn’t hold on as they didn’t create too many chances.”

Looking ahead to Hartlepool’s visit on Saturday he added: “I can’t wait for the game.

“Hopefully we’ll carry on our good form and try to get a win there. I’m really good, enjoying it (at Maidenhead). It’s a great bunch of lads and the gaffer’s been good.”
