Cookham Running Club’s athletes produced their best display to date at the Berkshire Schools Cross Country championships on Saturday, with five of their members gaining county selection.
Representing their schools, Cara Terry and Siena Brancato finished sixth and 13th respectively to earn their county vests.
They’ll now compete for Berkshire at an inter-counties match at Popham Airfield in Hampshire on February 2. This will give them a chance to progress to the English Schools National Championships in Leeds.
Joining them will be Frank McGrath, representing Furze Platt School, who came seventh in the junior boys race.
Two more Furze Platt pupils, Adam Gambrill, 11th in the senior boys race, and Beth Murray, 13th in the senior girls event, will also represent Berkshire in Hampshire.
In the u13s year 7 race, Tom Ellington produced his best run of the season to date for Reading Blue Coat School to finish fourth, with Ben Hearsey of Furze Platt School 16th.
Jacqueline Heller of the Piggott School came sixth in the girls’ equivalent.
Three other Cookham runners, Grace and Carys Allan of Newlands School and Asmi Saha of Kendrick School, made the top 16.
