Grass court tennis made a welcome return to Windsor’s Home Park earlier this month, with the club’s courts reopening to the public for the first time since lockdown was introduced.
Jane and Martyn Rowlands, and the club’s groundstaff have been working tirelessly to ensure the courts are in good condition for the return of ‘socially distanced’ singles and doubles matches.
WhatsApp leagues have been created to provide for players looking for that competitive edge, while random doubles pairings have also been created for those looking for more social tennis at the club.
The club is only using four of its courts to ensure social distancing can take place and a free online booking app is being used to manage court availability. The club has also significantly reduced this season’s membership fee to nearly half-price.
Club chair Jane Rowlands said: “It’s wonderful to see the courts in use, and members embracing the change in how we play our sport.
“Hopefully, at some point later in the season, there will be opportunities to add in our own American tournaments which are always incredibly popular and sociable, but one step at a time.”
