The Mill At Sonning’s musical ‘Gypsy’ has won a UK Theatre Award for the ‘Best Musical Production’ this month at a prestigious ceremony in London.

‘Gypsy’ was performed at The Mill at Sonning between May 24 and July 15 2023 in the Ray Cooney Auditorium.

The cast included Rebecca Thornhill, who was nominated for the ‘Best Performance in a Musical’ for her role in ‘Gypsy’.

The award ceremony took place on Sunday October 8, at Guildhall in The City of London.

A team from the Mill at Sonning attended the ceremony, including director and choreographer Joseph Pitcher and artistic director Sally Hughes.

The UK Theatre Awards are the only nationwide awards that celebrate outstanding achievements in regional theatre across the UK.

They are equivalent to the West End’s Olivier awards, which recognise theatre excellence, and are a great honour to receive.

Artistic director, Sally Hughes, said: “We are all delighted at the news. Actually more than delighted…Ecstatic.

“These awards really are a big deal for regional theatre.

“The Mill is lucky to have such a great team of creatives, musicians, back stage crew and of course the phenomenal talent of actors.

“We are floating on air today but tomorrow we are all back working on the next big musical… ‘High Society’.”
