A reserved matters application for the first phase of plans for the re-development of the Queensmere Shopping Centre in Slough features in this week’s public notices.
Planning
In October, Berkeley Homes unveiled plans for the long-awaited re-development of the long-standing Queensmere shopping centre.
The housing developer completed a deal to purchase the Queensmere Observatory shopping centres from Abu Dhabi Investment Authority in June.
The company revealed its vision for a ‘landmark regeneration scheme’, which will revive stalled plans to build up to 1,600 new homes, entertainment spaces and shops.
The plans include landscaped courtyards and walkable routes and a new Central Park and Herschel Square, which will mark the legacy of astronomer William Herschel through lighting and water features and provide community spaces for markets and events.
Station Walk will connect Slough railway station to the High Street and emulate the site of the first zebra crossing in the UK in 1951.
The first phase of the re-development will also feature the creation of a new food and beverage and leisure hub in the Town Square, and a new housing quarter with smaller units designed for independent retailers.
A reserved matters application has been submitted to Slough Borough Council (SBC) to redevelop the site to deliver residential units and commercial floorspace within new building, ranging from four to 14 storeys in height.
The work would also include associated landscaping, public realm and amenity spaces known as Station Walk and Town Square, and parking access routes.
The Queensmere is set to close in January, ahead of the start of demolition by the end of 2026, the Express reported in October.
Berkeley Homes is aiming to start construction work on site in 2027 and is ‘looking at a 14-year build programme overall’, with the first homes set to be occupied by 2030 and re-development to be completed in 2039.

Elsewhere, SBC has also received an application to redevelop 12-20 Windsor Road in Slough.
The plans include demolishing the existing buildings (retrospective) and constructing a new building with three ground floor Class E (commercial, business and service) units and 21 flats.
The application also includes cycle and bin storage and landscaping.

Road closures
The Royal Borough has made an order to temporarily stop drivers from waiting in Poolmans Road in Windsor on the northern side of the carriageway, from the eastern boundary of 2 Poolmans Road, westward to the western boundary of 12 Poolmans Road.
It will also apply on the southern side of the carriageway from the western boundary of 1 Poolmans Road westward to the western boundary of 17 Poolmans Road.
The order has been put in place due to the ‘likelihood of danger to the public caused by fibre network ducting works’.
It will come into force from 12.01am on Wednesday, December 17 and will continue to be in operation until 11.59pm on Friday, December 19.
