Flackwell Heath’s Lauren Torley has been selected to represent England's women in the Rugby Sevens competition at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham this summer.
Torley (back row, third from right), and Amy Wilson Hardy from High Wycombe are two of the 13-woman squad selected for the Games which get underway later this month.
Last week Team England announced the 26 rugby sevens athletes across the men’s and women’s teams, and both will be confident of medal success on home soil.
England Women come into the event as one of the favourites having recent Europe Trophy Series victories in Budapest and Zagreb. The squad also features three of the bronze medal winning team from the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast, Abbie Brown, Meg Jones and Wilson Hardy as well as four 2020 Tokyo Olympians. Brown and Jones will co-captain the group.
The men’s team also won bronze in the Gold Coast at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
The Commonwealth Games take place at various locations across Birmingham from July 28 to August 8.
