Slough Town enjoyed a ‘really good test’ in their second pre-season match at home to Southall last night (Tuesday), running out 3-1 winners at Arbour Park.

Having beaten Virginia Water by the same scoreline with an experimental and youthful side in their first friendly on Friday, manager Scott Davies gave minutes to a few more of his summer signings and first team squad last night.

The Rebels began brightly on their own patch and took the lead through Tyrique Clarke in the 12th minute. The midfielder forcing a low shot into the bottom corner after the home side moved the ball well in the final third to create the opportunity.

Southall managed to get themselves back on level terms in the 23rd minute when a free kick into the area bounced off the unfortunate Tyrese Dyce and found its way past new keeper Adam Desbois.

The home side rallied well before the break though and retook the lead in the 36th minute when Johhny Goddard curled the ball home from inside the area after being well picked out by Dyce, the defender making up for his earlier own goal.

Goddard nearly added a second on the stroke of half-time when his shot from distance clipped the top of the crossbar and went behind.

As with Friday’s friendly, Davies played a completely different XI in the second half with a few of the younger members of the squad getting more minutes under their belts.

Dan Roth came close with a volley that flashed over the bar, while new signing Wiktor Makowski opened his account on his first friendly appearance, having been denied by two smart saves earlier in the half.

The goal came in the 84th minute with Makowski racing onto a through ball from Nnemeka Anyanwu before showing great composure to lift the ball over the advancing keeper and into the net.

Next up for Slough is a trip to Flackwell Heath on Saturday afternoon.

Reflecting on the run out, Davies said: “A really good test against a strong Southall side.

“Two different 11’s, a few goals and no injuries. Very pleased with what’s virtually a brand-new squad with only four senior players from last season remaining.

“Massive good luck to Southall and Maxwell Howell for the 25/26 campaign.”
