Windsor boss Mark Cooper insists there’s still plenty of work to be done if the Royalists are to continue on their upward curve in the Hellenic Premier Division.
Saturday’s convincing 4-1 away win at Longlevens moved the side up to ninth in the table, but many of their rivals below them have matches in hand over them so it’s by no means done and dusted that they’ll be a top half side when the season reaches its conclusion.
While their form remains a little up and down, the Royalists have produced some stunning performances in recent weeks. They held unbeaten league leaders Westfields to a draw at Stag Meadow a few weeks ago before thumping high-flying Brackley Town Saints 7-2. Defeats against Flackwell Heath and Reading City have followed those impressive displays so Cooper will be keen for them to back up Saturday’s fine win at Longlevens. The goals were scored by Bill Montague and Tomas Kalinauskas who both bagged a brace and, while Longlevens managed to get one goal back, they never really threatened a comeback once Windsor were in their groove.
Afterwards, Cooper admitted he and his players won’t get carried away with the result as they focus on maintaining, and possibly improving on, their position.
“We’re certainly doing okay lately but we’ve not done anything yet,” he said.
“We take nothing for granted and we know that we’ve got to put some wins together to keep improving and build the foundations for next season.
“We’re not really looking too deeply into our position because it’s more about what we do rather than looking at league tables this season.
“We’re ninth now but teams have got games in hand on us. So we’re not getting carried away.
“I came to Windsor in September and there was a lot of work to do and there still is.
“To me, there’s two stand out teams in this league and as results have proved over the last few months everyone has beaten everyone else. We’re not really looking at the league table. We’re concentrating on what we’re doing and how we’re playing.”
Windsor will look to build on their win at Longlevens when they visit Easington Sports this Saturday afternoon, 3pm kick-off.
