Pattinson: Pandemic enabled Windsor RFC to take stock and make progress

Jack Pattinson believes that in certain respects Windsor RFC is in a healthier position than it was before the pandemic took hold, because it’s allowed everyone to take stock of where the club is and where improvements can be made.

The easing of lockdown restrictions enabled players of all ages to return to training just over a month ago and Pattinson said the weekly sessions had been ‘amazing’, with new recruits coming down and former players reconnecting with the club during this period.

The ‘exciting’ addition of a new women’s and girls’ head coach is also set to be announced in the coming weeks.

Pattinson said having some time to consider where progress could be made on and off the field has been ‘a blessing in disguise’.

“It’s been absolutely amazing,” said Pattinson.

“Since we started training again four or five weeks ago, we’ve had 70 to 80 lads every Thursday which is brilliant.

“We’ve had new lads coming down, older lads who’ve retired come back to re-connect with the club. We’ve had some guys who have come out of retirement to get playing again. It’s just been a great environment to be around.

“In many ways we’re in a healthier position than we were before the pandemic.

“It’s been a blessing in disguise because it’s allowed us to take stock of where we are and what improvements can be made at all levels of the club.

“We’re also brining a new head of women’s and girls’ rugby on board soon, and an announcement on that is going to be made soon.”
