This is the terrifying moment two cars burst into a ball of flames after a crash on Royal Windsor Way.

Eyewitnesses described hearing a ‘screeching of tyres’ and a ‘loud bang’ as a Volkswagen Golf and Seat collided on the road, formerly known as the Windsor and Eton Relief Road, just before 6.15pm on Sunday.

George Hayter, 64, from Eastleigh, had been enjoying a day of sightseeing before he saw the events unfold.

He told the Express: “We’d been sightseeing in Windsor and were walking nearby when we suddenly heard this screeching of tyres and a bang that was loud enough to hear from 200 yards away.

“There were bright yellow flames bellowing from both cars and plumes of massive black smoke.

“We thought that someone must’ve died there.”

Firefighters from Slough and Windsor rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the crash at about 6.15pm.

When they arrived, people from both cars had escaped unhurt but crews still had to use breathing apparatus and a hose reel to tackle the roaring flames.

Police and ambulance crews also attended the scene, with officers staying on to re-open both lanes of the southbound carriageway to traffic.
