An enforcement notice has now been served against Apple Hill care home in Hurley in connection with an ongoing breach of its planning consent.
The home, in Henley Road, has been told by the Royal Borough in needs to comply with condition 18 of its planning consent, which states it should only act as a residential care home for elderly people.
The notice will take effect on Friday, September 13 and give the home six months to comply with the consent and correct a long-standing breach which has seen it house younger people with mental health needs.
It comes after the borough refused an application from operator Henley Healthcare Ltd to turn the home into a community mental health hospital for over-18s.
All parties with a legal interest in the land, authorities and agencies with residents at the home and the Care Quality Commission have all been informed, which a notice has been placed at the site to make visitors aware of the action.
The home has the right to appeal within five weeks.

Dasharn Gregg, of Haynes Close, had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder over the stabbing, which left a 19-year-old man needing hospital treatment.
