Slough Post Office is open for business.
Slough’s town centre post office is back open for business at a newly revamped branch in the Queensmere Observatory Shopping Centre.
MP Tan Dhesi cut the ribbon to the new branch at unit 39 in the High Street shopping centre, which will be open six days a week, on Friday, November 21.
Shoppers and residents were left without the ‘vital’ town centre post office for more than a year after High Street retailer WH Smith, which housed the branch, closed in May 2024.
Slough Postmistress Mozhdeh Taheri said ‘people were really happy’ to have Slough Post Office open again, while Mr Dhesi said it was ‘an important step in breathing life back into the town’.
The new branch, next to JD Sports and TK Maxx, will be open to help shoppers with letters and parcels between 9am and 5.30pm from Monday to Saturday every week.
There are three Post Office counters located within the branch, alongside a retail counter for the cards, stationery and other items on sale.
The Post Office said the Slough branch had an ‘experienced team’ and featured Ms Taheri, who has run two branches previously, as well as store manager Mohammad Esmaeili.
Slough Post Office will also have two staff from the previous branch returning to work.
Ms Taheri said: “People are really happy to have Slough Post Office open again, especially town centre businesses who were having to take precious time out of their day to drive out of town’s main shopping area to visit other branches.
“The shops around us are very happy as we bring an extra reason to visit this part of the shopping centre.
“We’ve been busy telling nearby businesses and we were spreading the word at the Regeneration of Slough Town Centre exhibition, which was held on the day that the Post Office re-opened to the public.
“We have since been busy with stocking the retail side of the store.”
Developer Berkeley Homes discussed its ‘landmark’ proposals for a regeneration of Slough town centre, featuring 1,600 homes as well as new retail space, in an exclusive interview with the Express last month.
Mr Dhesi said: “It was an honour to cut the ribbon and great news that we have a Post Office back open in Slough town centre - it has been sorely missed by local residents, businesses and shoppers.
“Plans are underway to regenerate Slough, and this is an important step in breathing new life into the town.
“I want to thank postmistress Mozhdeh Taheri and her business partner Mohammad Esmaeili for this investment in such a vital service for our town, especially just before the busy Christmas period.”
Post Office Area Manager, Gemma Gardiner, said: “We know how important a Post Office is to a community and we are delighted to have restored Post Office service to the community.”
Parking for Slough Post Office is available at the Observatory Shopping Centre pay and display car park.
