A CGI image of how Wexham Park's new main entrance will look
Wexham Park Hospital is set to get new Costa Coffee outlets, a Co-op supermarket and a ‘street food café’ as part of a catering and retail overhaul at the site.
A 24/7 ‘smart shop’ will also be added to the Slough hospital’s offerings, with work expected to begin in the coming weeks and be completed by April this year.
Heatherwood Hospital in Ascot will also see refreshed food and drink options through Costa, NHS Frimley Health Foundation Trust said.
The trust’s chief strategy officer James Clarke said the changes were part of an effort to make ‘our
hospitals more welcoming and supportive for everyone’.
Wexham Park will see a new Costa Coffee branch added and a Costa rebrand is set to come to Crossroads Café, located at the intersection of the hospital’s blue and pink zones.
National restaurant chain Chaiiwala, which specialises in Asian-inspired wraps and coffees, is also set to open a new ‘street food café’ serving halal options.
The changes come as part of NHS Frimley Health’s five-year strategy which was unveiled last year.
Mr Clarke said the strategy would see ‘more than £50million’ invested into Wexham Park Hospital and include improvements to its wards as well as upgraded retail and café facilities.
He said: “New food and retail options will improve access to affordable essentials around the clock, which is especially important for our staff working long, night and weekend shifts.
“This is a practical investment in experience, wellbeing and quality, and it supports our wider strategy to make Frimley Health an even better place to receive care and to work.”
NHS Frimley Health said its partnership with Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) will end as part of the changes. RVS runs a shop in Wexham Park Hospital’s main entrance.
“The Trust has thanked RVS for its many years of support,” a statement said.
