Live: Maidenhead United v Chesterfield

FT: Maidenhead United 1, Chesterfield 1.

It might not be the three points fans were hoping for at half-time but that was an excellent display by the Magpies against the league leaders and the kind of performance that should boost morale and their hopes of avoiding the drop. If they can play like that for the rest of the season they won't go down, that's for sure. This needs to be the benchmark now.

90' Fabulous tackle on the byline from Adams to win the Magpies a goalkick and thwart an attack. 1-1

90' Maidenhead see off some late pressure from Chesterfield with more good defending and we must be almost there. This has been a very solid display from Devonshire's side and he should be very proud of them. I'm sure he is. Maybe a minute or two to see out first though 1-1

90' Berry whips a dangerous ball into the box that Ross stretches for and punches away. 1-1

90' Seven additional minutes for the Magpies or Chesterfield to find a winner. They've both gone for it in the second half. 1-1

88' Mandeville blazes wastefully over the bar for Chesterfield. Keetch comes on to replace Smith for the Magpies, who have won another corner through ANG. He whips it into the box and Golding eventually stabs over the bar. 1-1

86' Maidenhead retain a threat here. They've bounced back well after a period of pressure from the visitors following their goal. Pettit has just slalomed through and won a corner that comes to nothing. At the other end Quigley is crowded out as he attempts to net the winner for Chesterfield 1-1

84' Will De Havilland meets Adams' free kick from the right at the far post but he steers it wide under pressure. That was a chance for the Magpies and he's got his head in his hands afterwards. 1-1

83'  Substitution for Chesterfield. Grigg for Quigley.

78' Colclough is replaced by James Berry for the visitors. 1-1

Berry goes over in the box but it looks like he was anticipating a tackle from Asare and threw himself to the floor. He's booked for a dive.

75' It's end to end this and Maidenhead are still playing well here and with bravery. They create a good chance for Zimba in the area from Beckwith's cross but the striker doesn't get a great connection on the ball and Tyrer is able to get down and save. 1-1

70' Tyrer with a fantastic flying save to deny Beckwith, who's right-footed shot from outside the area certainly looked goalbound. What an attempt, but an even better save. It remains 1-1.

67' Banks heads goalwards from a Chesterfield corner but it bounces through the area without anyone in blue getting a touch on it. It's all Chesterfield now. They're dominating possession and playing at a much faster pace. Maidenhead trying their best to hang with them and hit them on the break. Omilabu then picks up a yellow for handball before firing into the net, but the whistle had sounded. 1-1

65' Chanka Zimba has come on to replace United's goalscorer Tobi Sho-Silva who picked up a knock. Both of the goals United have conceded in the past two games have come from shots outside the area. Defensively they've been excellent today, but Chesterfield have a lot of quality and can do that to you. They've got to get their heads up here and keep playing. 1-1

60' Banks sweeps a ball over the top and puts Will Grigg in the clear but Ross comes out of his goal well to pat down the striker's attempted lob. It's 1-1 but it could easily have been 2-1 to the Spireites.

58' Goal Chesterfield. Michael Jacobs with a fantastic curling strike that gave Craig Ross absolutely no chance. he was picked out on the edge by Mandeville and swept home under very little pressure. We're back all square with about 30 minutes plus stoppages to play.

54' Smith glides into the area once again after good build up play on the right. Smith's cross is almost met by Sho-Silva but Chesterfield defenders managed to put him off his stride and it's diverted behind for a corner. Tyrer claims Adams' ball into the box. 1-0

50' Maidenhead have made a very decent start to the second half. Hassling and harrying Chesterfield into giving up possession. ANG has just driven at the visitors defence but had his pocket pinched just as he was set to pull the trigger. 1-0

47' Decent chance for Colclough as he ghosts into the box but a combination of Ross and a defender turn the ball behind for a corner. The visitors look pumped for the second half, but United have also made a fast start. 1-0

46' The game is back underway with one change for the Magpies. Omilabu has come on to replace Jayden Mitchell-Lawson, who must have picked up a knock I'd assume. His replacement has just had the first attempt on goal, a scooped effort that Tyrer claimed comfortably. 1-0

HT: Maidenhead 1-0 Chesterfield. That's got to be the best half of football from the Magpies all season. From back to front they were excellent and deserve the lead that's been given to them by Tobi Sho-Silva's close range finish. Chesterfield have seen plenty of the ball and have passed it around nicely, but they've created very little of note other than an early chance for Will Grigg that was well saved by Ross. More of the same please in the second half Magpies!

45' Pressure late in the half from the visitors eventually results in a low shot from Ollie Banks that skims the foot of the post. 1-0

45' A minimum of seven minutes injury-time at the end of this half. Seems a bit much, but the referee has obviously been adding on any little stoppage in play.

43' Mandeville clips the crossbar with a volley from a cross but the linesman's flag goes up. United are defending so well here, getting back in numbers and working incredibly hard. They switched off a little there, but were rescued by the flag. Plus the strike didn't go in anyway. 1-0

40' The Chesterfield fans around me are joking about whether the 'curse of Maidenhead is striking again'. The way Maidenhead are playing you'd give the hosts half a chance. 1-0

36' Ryan Colclough skips away from Asare but the defender tracks back well to make an interception and put the ball out for the corner. That looked very dangerous from the visitors for a second there. The Magpies are defending very well, as they did for much of Tuesday's defeat to Altricham to be fair, and the Chesterfield fans are becoming frustrated! 1-0

33' Relief for the Magpies who've scored for the first time in five games, however, it's worth remembering that Chesterfield have fallen behind on plenty of occasions this season (apparently) and always seem to find a way to come back. They've just had their first shot on target, a sweeping shot on the turn from Armando Dobra that Ross comfortably saves. 1-0

29' GOAL! Maidenhead 1-0 Chesterfield. A poor clearance from the Spireites is seized upon by Mitchell-Lawson who races into the box and whips in a low cross that Sho-Silva stabs over the line.

24' Chesterfield have seen plenty of the ball and are passing it around really well, but it's all been in front of Maidenhead, they haven't managed to cut through the hosts' back line yet, other than that early chance for Grigg. 0-0

18' So far this has been a really good games between two teams that seem intent on attacking and trying to win this. It's ebbed and flowed one way and then another. 0-0

14' Mandeville gives the ball away cheaply and Smith is all over it, dashing at goal, but his shot is a whisker wide. It takes a slight nick on the way through and goes behind for a corner that Chesterfield clear. 0-0

13' For Maidenhead this season, this must go  down as an encouraging start. They're having a real go at Chesterfield here down the flanks through Smith, ANG and JML. 0-0

7' Maidenhead force their first chance of the match and it's a decent one. Reece Smith dances past his marker and whips in a good cross for Mitchell-Lawson who acrobatically flicks it over the bar. Might have been better to stoop and head it.

At the other end Ryan Colclough holds off Zico Asare in the area and bends one over.

5' Chesterfield are very almost in for the first goal. Jacobs does well to slide a well weighted ball through for Will Grigg who forces Ross into a good stop and the ball rebounds out of play for a corner that comes to nothing. 0-0

3' Chesterfield have started like a side that's sitting several points clear at the top of the league. Popping the ball around with confidence. Tobi Sho-Silva has already gone down with an injury. Hopefully, he'll be ok to continue as the hosts don't have many options up front! 0-0

15.00: Charlee Adams kicks this game underway. We're playing at York Road. 0-0

14.55: Here come the two teams. United will attack the Canal End in the first half.

14.50: The form of the two sides this afternoon couldn't really be anymore contrasting, so put your house on the Magpies to nick this one 1-0. That's what the Chesterfield fans around me fear, and with their record here, who could blame them!

14.50: Today's team news. Magpies have gone attacking, and Chesterfield's defence hasn't exactly been watertight this season for league leaders. Perhaps attack is the best form of defence for the Magpies, but it hasn't been their strong suit this season.

14.45: Maidenhead United welcome Chesterfield to York Road this afternoon for another intriguing fixture that pits top against very nearly bottom. The Magpies have fallen into the relegation zone after five defeats on the spin while Chesterfield have won a record seven matches in a row. There's only one way this game can go then surely? However, Paul Cook will be wary of the Spireites record here at York Road in the National League where they're yet to win!
