Burstow’s late leveller denies Reading

READING manager Leam Richardson believes Tuesday’s 1-1 League 2 draw at home to Bolton Wanderers was a “good point”.

The Royals took the lead through Jack Marriott, firing in his 16th goal of the season before the half-time break.

Bolton turned the screw in the second half as the Royals were forced to withdraw Marriott, Haydon Roberts and Paudie O’Connor through injury.

Eventually, one final corner proved one too many to defend as substitute Mason Burstow converted from close range to salvage a point. The result left Reading in eighth place in the table, two points behind sixth-placed Huddersfield Town with a game in hand .

Speaking after the game Richardson said: “When you’re holding onto the game as much as that and defend the set piece better, you win the game.

“The first half was very competitive, and both sides showed intent with the ball. I felt we finished the first half the strongest. The second half was a tough one because we had used all of our subs by 60 minutes with a few injuries. A point is a really good point for us tonight.”

Last Saturday Reading defeated Wycombe Wanderers 3-2 at the SCL Stadium with Marriott scoring a hat-trick. This Saturday Reading travel to Port Vale, kick-off 3pm.
