An ‘extremely caring’ Langley care home that fostered ‘precious times’ between loved ones has been rated ‘Good’ across the board in its latest inspection.
Langley Haven Care Home is based at 30 Rambler Lane, Langley, Slough. It is a care home providing personal care to older people and people living with a dementia.
It accommodates up to 35 people across 3 floors in one purpose-built building. There were 35 people using the service when we visited.
An inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) said: “We found that people were protected and kept safe by a team of caring and skilled staff who knew them well.”
“The home had a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with unrestricted access for visitors,” the report reads.
“Staff were consistently kind and caring and actively encouraged people’s independence.”
People’s nutritional and hydration needs were ‘well met’, and staff demonstrated a strong understanding of individuals’ preferences – confirmed by both residents and their relatives.
Risk assessments were regularly reviewed and updated as needed. Staff understood how to keep people safe and respected the choices people made.
Staff were hired through careful checks to make sure they were right for the job and could keep people safe.
If someone couldn’t make a decision for themselves, staff followed the rules of the Mental Capacity Act to make sure support was given properly and in the person’s best interests.
The management team were highly knowledgeable and fully understood their responsibilities, the report found.
They had good checks and systems in place to keep track of how the service was running.
People's experience of this service
During our visits to the service, the CQC observed ‘caring and person-centred interactions’ between staff and people using the service.
“Staff had a good understanding of those they supported and provided care that was tailored to individual needs,” the CQC wrote.
“Individuals expressed that staff cared for them safely and were satisfied with the way the service was managed. They knew who to approach if they had any concerns.”
People were helped to get the healthcare they needed, and staff encouraged them to eat and drink enough to stay well, the CQC added.
Residents also shared that staff promoted their independence and involved them, and where appropriate, their families in decisions about their care.
Feedback from staff, relatives, and visiting professionals emphasised this was an ‘extremely caring service.’
Relatives confirmed that people were happy and safe.
Comments included, “They [staff] all work as a team and are all so caring, also showing dignity and respect.”
Another said, “Last Friday it was [person’s] birthday and we all went to visit, and the home had really done [person] proud in celebrating their birthday, a cake, a proper party, even with a singer, and all the residents joined in, such a memorable day for all the family, these times are so precious.”
