In this week’s public notices this week, applicants are seeking to make a change to a historic listed building in Burnham. There are also some road closures in Windsor and Slough.

Planning

In Burnham, the grade II-listed Nashdom estate needs some work done to it, say those taking care of it.

Nashdom Abbey country house in Nashdom Lane was designed by the acclaimed architect Sir Edwin Lutyens.

It was completed in 1909 for Princess Dolgorouki, formerly Francis Wilson, heiress to her father’s industrial empire, who married the Russian Prince Alexis Dolgorouki .

In May 1924 it was sold to the Anglican Benedictine community, who stayed until 1987, when they moved to Elmore Abbey, near Newbury.

Left abandoned for some years, it was restored in 1995 and converted into apartments.

Nashdom is a heritage asset (number 1332673) and there is a registered historic park and garden on the estate.

The estate comprises leasehold apartments, freehold properties and woodland areas.

During recent repainting works, Nashdom Management Company Ltd discovered that ‘excessive rainfall’ earlier this year caused problems with water coming into the building.

Their surveyors advised that this was not a maintenance issue, but rather a result of the way one of the drainage fittings is constructed.

As such, it is seeking permission to make changes to this gully at an apartment within the main building.

Because Nashdom is a listed building, the management company needs permission from Buckinghamshire Council to make any changes.
