Featuring a selection of adapted ‘original’ telling of the Brothers Grimm tales by Carol Ann Duffy and directed by regular Wilde Theatre on and off-stage creative wizard, Julian Hirst, these favourite stories, performed in the round, had something for all ages.
Hansel & Gretel, The Golden Goose, Cinderella, Rumpelstiltskin, Snow White and Little Red Riding Hood were performed by a mostly young cast with an abundance of confidence and talent in all forms of stage-craft from dance to puppetry, singing to acting and movement and diction.
I must also congratulate the production crew who created a simple but effective set that moved and changed with such fluidity. Along with lightning effects and music that enhanced, creative costumes and some wonderful props and puppets that were as magical and enchanting as the tales themselves.
This excellent production was far from grim and appealed to both the adult and child in me.
