Burlesque storyline set in swinging Maidenhead

With live original music and a storyline, Blues and Burlesque is not like other burlesque shows.

The show had five sell-out nights at the Brighton Fringe and features a three-person cast.

Providing the music is Pete Saunders, formerly of Dexy's Midnight Runners.

He is joined on stage by burlesque stars Lady Beau Peep and Bruise Violet.

The show is set in the seventies and tells how he and his mistress Lady Beau Peep, played by Louise Leader, move to Maidenhead ‘the swingers capital of the UK’.

There they meet neighbour, Bruise Violet, played by Helen Grant, who spices up their swingers parties with her burlesque routines.

Louise, who lives in Maidenhead, said: “There are different levels to it, there is a lot of laughs and also some cheeky bits.

“It is unusual to have a storyline in a burlesque show, often you will have a string of acts but not a story linking it together.”

The trio has come to South Hill Park before but this latest show has only been seen at the Brighton Fringe.

Blues and Burlesque began on the London cabaret circuit and took a previous show to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2012.

Louise has been performing as Lady Beau Peep for about 10 years and has performed in front of celebrities including Joan Collins and Sir Ian McKellen.

Bruise Violet is a resident headline performer at Proud Cabaret in Brighton and was crowned best British female at the World Burlesque Games in 2013.

“We all sing together and do duets and solos,” said Louise.

“It is very, very funny and it is going to be a completely different show.”
