Major plans unveiled for multi-million pound Farnham Road scheme

Farnham Road could be ‘transformed’ by a multi-million pound project drawn up by Slough Borough Council.

The local authority has revealed its plans for the Destination Farnham Road scheme after securing £9.3million from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund.

The project could see a range of works carried out including wider footpaths through the main shopping area between Essex Road and Sheffield Road and seating areas outside Farnham Road’s cafes and eateries.

A reduced speed limit of 20mph is also proposed through the main shopping area alongside a new off-road two-way cycle route.

A consultation into the scheme launched this week and members of the their public can give feedbacks on the proposals until Sunday, February 11.

Conservative councillor Paul Kelly, lead member for highways, housing and transport, said: “This is a scheme which could transform Farnham Road and the surrounding roads, making the area better for residents, businesses, visitors and all road users.”

The scheme also includes plans for new limited waiting parking bays which form part of the footway between the Cumberland Avenue roundabout and Sheffield Road.

New electric vehicle charging points and cycle parking are also planned between Essex Avenue and Sheffield Road alongside upgraded bus stops and improved street lighting.

Drop-in sessions where people can find out more about the scheme will be taking place at The Centre, Farnham Road, on the following dates:

Tuesday, January 23 from 2-7pm

Thursday, January 25 from 10am-4pm

Thursday, February 1 from 3-7pm
