The Liberal Democrats have announced the party's candidate for Slough MP as the race for election gets underway.
Chelsea Whyte will run for the Lib Dems - fronted by party leader Ed Davey - against Labour MP Tan Dhesi, who has also confirmed he will seek re-election.
A general election, which last took place in 2019, will take place this year although PM Rishi Sunak has not yet called for a vote.
Speaking about her appointment, Ms Whyte said: “I am honoured to be representing the Liberal Democrats in Slough. This is an exciting time in politics, with everything to play for.
"The people of Slough made their opinion of the Labour Party clear during the recent Council elections, paving the way for three hard-working Liberal Democrats to join the Council."
In council elections last year, Labour lost its majority in Slough as the electorate voted instead for a Conservative council.
Likewise in the Slough's neighbouring constituency, the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, a Conservative council was ousted in favour of the Liberal Democrats.
Ms Whyte currently works as a consultant for businesses across several sectors including on energy, manufacturing, legal and finance issues.
She has previously worked for Lib Dem MEP Catherine Bearder in the European Parliament and as the Lib Dem elected Mayor of Watford.
"The Liberal Democrats present the voters of Slough with a clear alternative to the stale and untrustworthy politics of the past," said Chelsea.
"The Lib Dems have detailed costed plans for investment in vital services, such as the NHS, to improve areas where the Conservative Government has been failing so badly.
The Conservative Party have ruled central government for 14 years but are predicted to cede power, with Sir Keir Starmer's Labour Party currently favourites to win in the polls.
Ms Whyte added: "I hope that I can offer people a fresh perspective and the local representation they [the people of Slough] deserve.
"I look forward to meeting as many residents as possible over the coming months and helping to affect real change in Slough.”
Chair of Slough Liberal Democrats Cllr Frank O’Kelly (Cippenham Village) added:
“Chelsea is a fresh, new voice for our area, with a wealth of experience as a Liberal Democrat campaigner.
"She brings with her the much-needed energy and fresh ideas that will further strengthen the re-building of our party from 2023's successes and help us march ahead of Labour and Tory candidates.
"It’s time we elect someone to Westminster who is community minded and can represent everyone in the town.”
A Conservative candidate for Slough has not yet been decided.
