Condoms bought from a new online shop launched by a Slough-based sexual health charity will leave people with an extra ‘feel good’ factor, according to the charity’s chief executive.
Thames Valley Positive Support (TVPS) is now offering a range of condoms at discounted high street prices in a bid to cover damaging budget cuts.
The Bath Road-based charity, which supports people diagnosed with HIV in Slough, Windsor and across Berkshire, saw its funding from Slough Borough Council slashed in 2014 leaving a £46,000 yearly shortfall.
But TVPS CEO Sarah Macadam is hoping the new online condom shop will ease the charity’s financial challenges and help tackle HIV prevalence in Slough.
Sarah said: “Like many other charities we have fallen victim to the cuts being made by local government, but we decided to pick ourselves up and start trying to fill the gap in funding ourselves.
“All our condoms come with a little extra ‘feel good’ as all profits from the sale of them go to supporting people affected by HIV.”
People will be able to buy ‘One of a Kind’ packs containing 20 condoms for just £8 while a Jack of all Trades pack including glow in the dark and strawberry flavoured protection will be available for £12.
And with all orders delivered in ‘protective and discreet’ packaging, TVPS is hoping this will encourage people to buy condoms online with confidence.
Slough is still ranked as the sixth highest outside of London for people living with HIV and Sarah added that she hoped the charity’s new venture will help continue the battle against the virus.
She said: “With Slough having such a high prevalence of HIV the support we provide is vital.
“We aren’t going to leave our service users in the lurch, we’re going to do everything we can to raise funds to continue to provide a service here.”
