Goals from Jemel Johnson and Fiifi Carter might have secured Windsor & Eton another win on Saturday and placed them on top of the Thames Valley Premier League table, but manager Matt Angell said he wasn’t best pleased with his side when he spoke to the Advertiser this week.

SB Phoenix became the latest side to lose to Windsor at the weekend, with Nathan Green’s early goal at Farnham Park cancelled out by Johnson’s penalty in the 39th minute and Carter seizing victory with a spot kick of his own in the 63rd.

Notably, Johnson could have scored from the spot again in the 43rd minute but the striker blasted the ball over and defender Elliott Dobbs was dismissed late in the second half for dissent.

Reflecting on the match, Angell said: “I was away for our previous two games, and I felt like I should have had another week off. We didn’t play the way I wanted us to play, the boys didn’t adapt to the smaller pitch, and they didn’t take their chances.

“We had three penalties and scored two of them – we were really quite wasteful in front of goal.

“They are a mature side, SB Phoenix. They have got a lot of experience in their group, and we failed to deal with that for the first 35-40 minutes.

“Elliott’s red was so petulant. He had been booked already and then decided to kick the ball away after he gave away a free kick. He has paid for his red well this week – he’s received a bit of banter from the boys, a £35 fine, and a fine in the players’ group aswell.”

Windsor & Eton face Burghfield this Saturday, the side they drew 0-0 with at a fan-filled Stag Meadow on Saturday, August 19.

Angell will, however, have a new player at his disposal as James Clark was announced to have joined Windsor on a dual registration with Virginia Water on Thursday.

“It was tough then to break those guys (Burghfield) down and I expect it to be even tougher this weekend at their place,” said Angell. “They have had some good results lately so we shall see how we fare this weekend.

“We’ve signed James Clark from Virginia Water. Clarky is a player I have worked with previously at Eversley & California. He moved on from there to Virginia Water and he has spent the majority of his footballing career at step five.

“We are really lucky to get someone of his quality in. He will bring leadership, assists, goals, and workrate to our side so I am really pleased to have him on board. He is really versatile.”
