A consultation is underway for a new proposed bus service between Maidenhead and Heathrow Airport.
Thames Valley Buses Ltd has applied to Transport for London (TfL) for a London Service Permit to operate a new service between Frascati Way and Heathrow Terminal 5.
Route 704 would also stop at the Taplow Sainsbury's, Three Tuns in Slough and Langley High Street.
A direct First Bus service linking Maidenhead Train Station and the airport was withdrawn in 2023 after funding from Slough Borough Council, which subsidised it, ground to a halt.
The previous route 4 service from Maidenhead ran every half an hour on weekdays between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m., but it now only operates between Heathrow and Cippenham.
The evening service was terminated, and with the direct Heathrow route gone, bus users travelling to the airport from Maidenhead must now change in Slough.
Day commuters from Maidenhead take the Number 6 bus to Knolton Way in Slough – an hourly service starting an hour later – and change to the Number 4 bus for Heathrow Airport.
In the past two years, resident petitions have called for the direct link between Maidenhead and Heathrow Airport to be reinstated for around two thousand airport employees in the town.
TfL consults relevant London highway, police and other authorities on proposals by bus services that do not form part of the London bus network.
The proposed hourly Route 704 service will operate Monday to Saturday, with terminal points in Maidenhead and Stop 8 at Heathrow Airport Terminal 5.
Buses to the airport leave Frascati Way at 5.34am and terminate at 5.29pm.
The 12 journeys throughout the day last approximately 55 minutes.
The inbound route covered is Colnbrook Bypass, Stanwell Moor Road, Longford Bus Link, Western Perimeter Road, Wallis Road, Wellington Road to Heathrow Terminal 5.
Direct bus journeys from Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 to Maidenhead are also hourly, starting at 6.40am and terminating at 6.45pm daily.
The outbound route returns via Wellington Road, Wayfarer Road, Western Perimeter Road, Longford Bus Link, Stanwell Moor Road and Colnbrook Bypass.
On Saturdays, bus times alter slightly throughout the day but start and end at the same time as weekdays.
Bus stands and turning points are subject to the terms and conditions issued by Heathrow Airport Holdings Ltd.
The proposed start date is June 2 this year, if approved.
Residents can share their views on any open consultation for a new London Service Permit application by completing the online consultation form by Friday, April 25.
