Pangbourne Rotary Club

PANGBOURNE Rotary Club has welcomed Ted Millichap as a member.

Ted, a retired banker and financial advisor, is from Purley.

He was sponsored by Dean Chamberlain and John Littleford, our newest member, introduced Ted to the “Objects of Rotary”.

President Brian Davies then inducted him.

Ted is looking forward to contributing to the club’s activities.

Members congratulated Ted on becoming a member.

He is the 15th new member in less than six years and 13 of them are still with Rotary.

Our annual dragon boat racing took place on Sunday.

Nine crews paddled the 252m course on the Thames at Pangbourne Meadows.

In a thrilling, photo-finish final, the winners were The Rank Outsiders (from St Matthew’s Church) who narrowly defeated Oar and Gas (from the Wood Group).

Thank you to the crews, the public who supported the event and the 20-plus volunteers, Rotarians, family and friends who, although exhausted, felt proud of what they had achieved.

Autism Berkshire and other local charities will benefit to the tune of more than £3,500.

Thanks to the Purley Park Trust, which sponsored the event, P R Motors, which sponsored the safety boat and Pro-Tar Surfacing and Woodborough Dental practice which each sponsored a boat.

The boats were provided by Henley Dragons, who did a magnificent job in running the races. Roar on next year.

We are a fun-loving, hard-working club with a traditional base of less than 30 members.
